Dr. Elizabeth Woolsey-Herbert

Veterinarian

As the daughter of a California equine veterinarian, Elizabeth (Boo to her friends) grew up in the business. She learned to ride on ponies that her father acquired over the years for non-payment.

That gave her the glue-legs that kept her relatively unharmed during her brief jumping career. She graduated from UC Davis in physiology then did an MS (this time veterinary physiology) and received her D.V.M. at her favourite university, Auburn. War Eagle.

She began practice in her dad’s equine clinic, and then went out on her own before moving to Australia, where she again started  her own equine clinic now known as Adelaide Plains Equine Clinic

She lives with an array or animals including her favourite Lochy the Wonder Horse, her step-son Duncan an air force pilot when he is in Adelaide and hungry, and her daughter Shelley. She is a published author: Horse Doctor An American Vets Life Down Under and she is currently in the process of publishing her second book which is a compilation of Inspiring Teacher Stories.

The second in the Horse Doctor Series is about half written and she encourages you to remind her of events that might be “book  worthy”.

Jodie Vaughan

Office Manager

Jodie joined APEC in March 2011. She is often your first point of contact in the event of an emergency, when making appointments, and manages all of the accounts. She has many years of experience in reception and book keeping roles, and loves that she can combine that with her passion for horses.

Out of work Jodie is actively involved with Pheva Equestrian Vaulting Club where her daughter Annalise vault’s, and watching her son Brayden compete in motocross. Meanwhile she tries to find time between all of that to ride her quarter horse Ash.

Sandy Brown

Veterinary Nurse

After a short post baby hiatus #2 (the last addition), I have returned to one of my favourite places on earth. Its a little sad to say but I have missed you all. The grey matter is still a little mushy (like it wasn’t always) and the connections lines for information are little rusty. But on the whole it’s like I’ve never left. I would like to thank the wonderful team at APEC for welcoming me back with open arms and for all the fabulous clients for their kind words and patient smiles.

To all you newbie’s out there I grew up on a sheep station ¾ of a Million Acers in the East Murchison of Western Australia. I followed my dream of horses to the racing stables with Glyn Pretty and then the famous Lindsay Park and later the green acres of Milluna Stud One Tree Hill Where I bred handled, trained, and sold every aspect of Thoroughbreds around Australia for the better part of Ten years.  I love my rodeo, carriage driving, tent pegging, barrel racing, eventing, showjumping, vaulting, hacking, cutting, reigning ,axe throwing, mounted archery and camp drafting.

If you can’t find me there I will be with my other horsepower passion (anything with a motor).

Looking forward to getting my hands dirty and learning something new everyday.

Amanda Goodman

Veterinary Nurse Repro team

Amanda has been with us at APEC since October 2010. With a short break in-between she re-joined us as a volunteer assisting with the Pinery fire horses and then back into her role as a Vet nurse as if she never left.

Amanda was pretty much born into a life of horses and throughout her career has worked at various studs and racing stables from the age of 15 years.

Over her years of riding she has completed up to novice in eventing and B grade showjumping an is a D grade pony club instructor. For those that have read Elizabeth’s book ‘Horse Doctor’, Amanda features in one of the chapters with a rather impressive colic story of her beloved horse Cooper on Christmas Day. (If you haven’t read it yet, you can still buy copies from the clinic.)

Amanda is quite the asset to our team as a jack of all trades, often repairing fences, painting & many other jobs that often aren’t quite in the ‘vet nurse job description. Amanda is one of our very experienced stallion handlers during breeding season and is a bit of a favourite amongst the stallions who know exactly who she is and why they’re here when they see her!

In her spare time Amanda enjoys spending time with her family and friends and her various pets.

If you can’t find me there I will be with my other horsepower passion (anything with a motor).

Looking forward to getting my hands dirty and learning something new everyday.

Julie Laughton

Veterinary Nurse and
Wound management team

I began working in a small animal practice in 2005, and my passion for nursing has continued to grow from there. Prior to that I was employed at Lindsey Park Stud preparing thoroughbred yearlings for the sales.

Dr Elizabeth has been my go-to horse vet for many years, and since working alongside the APEC staff as a volunteer after the Pinery bushfires, I officially joined the team (on the pay roll) in October 2016.
